--- Boerner Botanical Gardens

Boerner Botanical Gardens is a collection of formal garden spaces, hosting a number of plant collections from ornamental grasses to phenomenal peonies. Formal Gardens include the perennial, peony, rock, rose, shrub, annual, daylily, herb and trail gardens. Brand new education and exhibition center.. Milwaukee County Zoo

Most animals live in natural surroundings, with predators and prey separated only by hidden moats. There is a zoo train, sea lion show, tram tour, animal rides and educational dairy farm. Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory (The Domes)

Architecturally unique glass domes house a tropical rainforest, a desert oasis, and five seasonal floral shows. Includes a 30-foot waterfall and 100 birds. Open daily 9-5. 524 S. 27th St., Milwaukee. Telephone: (414) 649-9800.

Racine Zoological Gardens

Located on 32 acres along the Lake Michigan shoreline with over 200 animals. Free admission and parking. Summer hours (Memorial Day - Labor Day): 9-8. Winter hours: 9-4. 2131 N. Main St. Racine. Telephone: (262) 636-9189.

Schlitz Audubon Nature Center

Featuring a new 30,000 square foot "green" building, seven miles of hiking trails and a 60-foot observation tower, the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center is only 15 minutes north of downtown Milwaukee on the shores of Lake Michigan. A variety of environmental and natural science programs offered. Open year round with cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Open 9-5, 7 days a week. Closed most major holidays. 1111 E. Wehr Nature Center

This 220-acre living laboratory features a 20-acre lake and trails through prairie, oak savannah, woodlands and wetlands. There are also field trips for youth groups and special events for families, children and adults. Open year-round, 8-4:30, except major holidays. Group reservations required. Pier Wisconsin, Ltd.

A maritime and water resource education center. Its primary educational center is the 137-foot-long S/V Denis Sullivan, and authentic replica of the 19th century lake schooners that traveled the Great Lakes. The center is embarking on a new construction project and will be closed during 2005. 500 N. Harbor Dr., Milwaukee. Telephone: (414) 276-7700.
