The state excels in academic achievement and offers its residents a wide range of educational opportunitiesboth public and private.In addition to the many nationally recognized public schools, the five-county southeastern Wisconsin region has hundreds of high-performing Catholic, Lutheran, Jewish and Baptist schools, many of which have deep roots. Marquette University High School, for example, is more than 150 years old, while the University School of Milwaukee dates back to 1851.Public School Excellence Wisconsin schools have consistently been ranked among the best in the country. In 2018, the state ranked 13th in the nation with the nations ninth highest high school graduation rate (88%) and math and SCHOOLSreading proficiency scores that are 15%-25% higher than the national average even though the states public schools spend less per pupil. In Milwaukee County, school FOR ALL AGES districts are unified, which means they include elementary, middle and high schools. In suburban counties, however, there can be separate school districts for elementary and high schools. In these situations, several elementary school Excellence in education from kindergartendistricts will feed into a single high school district.
